Atlanta, GA, June 12, 2012 – EnvisionWare, a leading provider of self-service and library-efficiency solutions, announced today that San Diego County Library has selected EnvisionWare to expand their automated materials handling (AMH) capabilities. San Diego County Library was recently named 2012 Library of the Year for excellence and innovation.
The Library first installed EnvisionWare's AMH services in 2010 at two of their locations. Now, additional sorters are installed in six branches: Vista, El Cajon, San Marcos, La Mesa, Rancho San Diego, and Santee.
The AMH installations are part of the Library's strategic planning efforts to improve efficiency and optimize service delivery. EnvisionWare already provides RFID and computer and print management solutions (PC Reservation®, and LPT:One™) throughout the Library's thirty-three locations.
"An increase in circulation, program attendance, and library visitors has called for creative and innovative solutions to doing more with less," said San Diego County Library Director José Aponte. "Technology has enabled SDCL to offer self service solutions, empowering both customers and staff."
The sorters will help San Diego address the high volume of activity throughout the system. In 2010-2011, the Library attracted 5.8 million visitors and circulated over 12.4 million items. Library staff also hosted over 22,000 programs designed to deliver services to new and underserved customers, as well as retain existing library users. The Library has been recognized nationally for developing best practices, creating replicable ideas, and for its unique ability to form alliances within the community.
"San Diego is known for delivering innovative programs and solutions through its partnerships," said EnvisionWare CEO Mike Monk. "As a technology partner, we are proud to work with the Library to develop and support initiatives that improve services to their diverse community."
